It is one of the New 7 Wonders of the world, and one of three World Heritage Sites in Agra besides Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.

Completed in 1653 A.D., the Taj Mahal is believed to be built by the Mughal (king) Shah Jahan as the final latent place for his beloved wife, Mumtaz. Finished in marble, it is perhaps India’s most captivating and attractive monument. This perfectly proportioned monument took 22 years (1630-1652) of hard labor and 20,000 workers, masons and jewelers to build between landscaped gardens., Ustad Isa, Persian architect constructed the Taj Mahal on the bank of the Yamuna River. Built on a marble platform that stands above sandstone it is a magnum opus of symmetry, seeming to be floating in the air from a distance, and each exposed as an illusion experienced as one enters through the main gate. Verses of the Holy Koran are inscribed on it and at the top of gate 22 small domes, suggestive of the number of years the monument took to build
