Situated at Fatehpur Sikri, near Agra, opposite to Delhi Gate in the heart of city one of the most famous mosque and the largest mosque of Asia is Jama Masjid.It is also Known as the Jami Masjid and Friday mosque in the world. The Masjid-i-Jahan-Namaa is the Persian name of Indian mosque and mirror of Indian religion.

Jama Masjid was built by Shah Jahan in 1648 and dedicated to his favorite daughter, Jahanara Begum. This mosque can hold 25,000 worshipers at one time. Wide red sandstone steps lead to entrances on the south, north and east of the mosque. The Jammat Khana hall is located towards the corner on the right side and next to this is Zenna Rauza, the Tomb of the Royal ladies. Jama Masjid has tombs Sufi shrine and Islam Khan. The mausoleum of Sheikh Salim Chisti is worth seeing. Initially it was built in red stones and was later converted in marble.

The entrance to Jama Masjid is approached through the BulandDarwaza, one of the highest gateways in the world, standing 40 meters high from Ground level. On Fridays the courtyard is filled with devotees who come in for ‘NamaazThe mosque has an elegant architecture and has the tomb of royal ladies and JammatKhan hall within the courtyard. The Masjid endorses glazed tiles, beautiful decorated paintings inlaid stones, and carvings. The building comprises of pillared Dalan, the ‘Chhatri and a beautiful‘Chhajja’ on the roof.
