Agra Fort History

Agra Fort is located (270 10’ 47’’N & 780 1’ 22’’ E) on the right bank of the riverfort Yamuna in the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the most important and robustly built stronghold of the Mughals, embellished with number of richly decorated buildings encompassing the imposing Mughal style of art and architecture. It was constructed by the third Mughal emperor Akbar on the remains of an ancient site known as Badalgarh. Sikandar Lodi (1487-1517) was the first Sultan of Delhi to shift his capital from Delhi to Agra. After Sikandar Lodi who died in 1517, his son Ibrahim Lodi held the fort for 9 years until he was defeated and killed in the battle of Panipat in 1526. Several palaces, wells and a mosque were built in the fort during the Lodi period.

Agra Jami Masjid Mosque History

Jama Masjid in Agra is opposite the Agra fort and overlooking the Agra Fort Railway jamamasjidStation. The Jama Mashjid is also popularly knowns as the Jami Masjid or “Friday Mosque”. It is one of the larger Mosque in India.
Jama Masjid of Agra has Imam of Ahle Sunnat Wala Jamaat or Barelwi. Jami Masjid Mosque is a very simple mosque of red sandstone with little white marble decoration and blue colour paint wall and ceilings. It’s a huge mosque in the center of Agra surrounded by a great bazaar. The mosque was completely empty of any tourist, only one man praying and the little children at the Madrasa (Koran school). The Mosque Stands on a high plinth approached by stairs, and with five arched entrances to the courtyard, the mosque is crowned by three large sandstone domes distinguished by their zigzag bands of marble. It has well-balanced proportions and a courtyard surrounded by cloisters on three of its sides and the prayer chamber on its western side.

Agra Taj Mahal History

Agra’s Taj Mahal is one of the most well known buildings in the world, the mausoleum of tajmahalShah Jahan’s favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the New 7 Wonders of the world, and one of three World Heritage Sites in Agra besides Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.

Completed in 1653 A.D., the Taj Mahal is believed to be built by the Mughal (king) Shah Jahan as the final latent place for his beloved wife, Mumtaz. Finished in marble, it is perhaps India’s most captivating and attractive monument. This perfectly proportioned monument took 22 years (1630-1652) of hard labor and 20,000 workers, masons and jewelers to build between landscaped gardens., Ustad Isa, Persian architect constructed the Taj Mahal on the bank of the Yamuna River. Built on a marble platform that stands above sandstone it is a magnum opus of symmetry, seeming to be floating in the air from a distance, and each exposed as an illusion experienced as one enters through the main gate. Verses of the Holy Koran are inscribed on it and at the top of gate 22 small domes, suggestive of the number of years the monument took to build
